A Thor movie Halloween costume is a very creative choice for a range of different costume occasions. You may choose one of the characters for a Halloween event or you could be planning an reenactment of some of the scenes. Maybe a child has to have a costume for a competition at school. Thor has a selection of costumes for both male and female.
The Son of Odin – Thor
Thor is of course the principal character in the movie. His costume consists of a red cloak that is attached from the shoulders of his suit of armor and flows behind him in classic superhero style. When making the cloak, you might find certain material provides the correct weight to achieve the right effect. The signature hammer of Thor can be recreated from packing foam which may be pinned to a cardboard tube and then painted.
The armor for Thor can be made from cardboard. Cut out the shapes and stick them together with some strong glue and some twine. Cardboard boxes of the type used for large appliance packaging will be the most suitable. Once you have achieved the desirable armor design, you can paint the finished product with a thick latex based paint which you will mix from black and white to get a dark grey. Paint normally used for railings will suffice.
All Seeing Guardian of Asgard – Heimdall
The costume of Heimdall the gate keeper is a favorite choice to recreate simply because of the spectacular nature of it. The solid gold effect of his armor and his great horned head piece are awe inspiring indeed. This costume can be made from combination of polystyrene and cardboard. Canned spray paint that is used for cars should give you the exterior effect you are looking for.
Frost Giants of Jotunheim
The key characteristics of the Frost Giants in the film are the faces. They are created to depict the frozen wastelands from which they originate. Their faces are contoured and textured and you could try to achieve this in a choice of two ways. First might be with the use of heavy makeup. Thick layers of grey and white stage paint should do the trick. You could also use stage paste applied to the skin and then cover with patches of white tissue paper to achieve a frozen scaly effect. The red eyes can be approximated with some small round spectacles with semi transparent plastic lenses which you can make yourself.
The problems with the above methods are that they are use once only solutions. Once cleaned off the costume is gone for good. You can make a reusable head for the Frost Giants as a mask. This can be put on and taken off as you wish and it can also be kept for a souvenir. Painted papier mache is possibly the best medium to use.
The Destroyer
If you want a real challenge in costume design then you could attempt to make that of the Destroyer. Get ready for some quite detailed and painstaking work. Your efforts should be well rewarded if you are able to recreate this awe inspiring giant. A suggestion would be to use bits of old leather which you can collect from a recycling station. The head should be a single cardboard box. Cut away the eye section and cover the open space from the inside with some semi transparent plastic.
Warrior Princess – Sif
If you are looking for a female Thor movie costume to make then one of the best choices is probably that of Sif. In the movie her costume is mainly robes which are easy enough to recreate with yards of cloth. You can make the armored shoulder pads she wears out of cuts of stiff paper or cardboard and then color them with paint.
