Bizarre And Unique Green Lantern Movie Costume

The Green Lantern movie costume has everybody talking about how best to recreate this intriguing outfit. In the movie it appears as if the suit is not an actual physical piece of clothing but rather is a body of green light emerging from the character's ring. The effect is a body hugging neon-like light that emphasizes his torso muscles.

The suit can be made from a Kelly green leotard with a turtle neck. There are websites where these can be purchased at affordable prices. In order to create pronounced abs a body sculpting undershirt can also be purchased online that creates the illusion that the chest muscles are developed. This shows through very well with the Lycra turtle neck leotard on top of it.

Black Funtasma boots would be very suitable to virtually complete the outfit. The style of the boot is space-age Gothic. There are about a dozen versions of this to choose from on a well known giant online store. Regular lime green rubber boots bought in a discount store would be effective also.
The fictional character also wears a greenish-colored eye-mask. The artistically inclined can actually paint this onto their face around their eyes. This option is the most comfortable since there is no mask to hold onto the face. The recommended equipment for creating this mask are a small sponge that is wedge-shaped, and white, black and kelly green paint from any face painting product line.

Keeping an image of the mask close at hand to refer to regularly is helpful when duplicating it onto the face. The greenish shade and black are used to fill in the exposed skin areas.Starting off with the greenish-shade the eye area right up to a few inches over the eyebrows is painted in. The white color is used to accentuate more prominent regions of the face. Free tutorial videos are online to help in the shading technique.

For a real mask one can make it cheaply from a 12x18 inch foam sheet available in craft stores. Other supplies include two rigid plastic Batman masks purchased from an inexpensive discount shop. Cut put a six inch wide rectangle from one end of the sheet. Preheat an over to 250 degrees F and place the foam piece onto the rack for a few minutes.

Remove the drooping foam piece and place onto the eyes of the Batman mask. Cup the second mask over it and press to shape the foam. Trace around the eyeholes with a black felt pen. Remove the new mask from between the two Batman masks and trim off the excess material cutting out the two eye holes also. Adhere the mask to the face with a few dabs of spirit gum.

The Green Lantern movie costume ring is available for purchase from a major children's toy store. It can also be made from green wax, cardboard or wood. The easiest is to make a template of the ring on paper and then transfer this to cardboard. Once it is bent and glued together it can be spray painted green. There are many template patterns available online to choose from.

First Look: Andrew Garfield In Full Spider-Man Costume

It's a great day to be a comic book movie fan! We're less than a day away from the premiere of director Michel Gondry's The Green Hornet adaptation, we got our first good look at Chris Evans in costume in director Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avenger (courtesy of EW) and now Sony has released a moody, high-resolution image of Andrew Garfield in the newly redesigned Spider-Man costume from director Marc Webb's Spider-Man franchise reboot.

What's striking about the image is just how different the new costume is from not only the comic book version of Spidey's duds, but from the movie costume worn by Tobey Maguire in director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. So far, we've identified three major differences in design elements of the new costume, and that's not even including the mask and leggings, which are not visible in the image.

First, Maguire's costume, like the comic book version, had curved webbing atop the red portions of the costume, but Garfield's costume has a more geometric pattern of webbing. Like the comic version, however, Garfield's webbing is black, whereas Maguire's costume had silver webbing.

Second, the spider emblem on the chest of Garfield's costume is different from both the comic book and Maguire emblems. Maguire's spider emblem, though stylized, still pretty much maintained the shape and size of the comic book version, but the bottom legs on Garfield's web emblem extend all of the way down the front of the costume to his waist.

Finally, the red portions on the arms and gloves of Garfield's costume are different from both the comic book version and Maguire's version in that they don't appear to be connected. While it's possible that the red band connecting the chest and shoulders to the gloves is included in Garfield's costume, just smaller or more toward the back, the gloves themselves are also different, with bands of blue intersecting the red at the top of the gloves and around the thumbs.

While some fans have already expressed their disapproval of the creative license taken with the iconic Spider-Man costume, 65% of the fans approve of the new costume, according to an online poll set up at ComicBookMovie What do you think? Sound off in the comments section below!.

Yesterday we got our first look at the Spider-Man costume that Andrew Garfield will be sporting when the superhero returns to theaters in 2012. And while the iconic red-and-blue costume has changed over the years in the comic book universe, it's also undergone some changes in the movie world, too.

From the time Tobey Maguire slipped on the spandex in 2002 to yesterday's reveal of the new costume, the friendly neighborhood webslinger has changed his look with every big-screen iteration. Want to see just how much Spidey's look has changed over the years? Click on the image below for a gallery of Spider-Man's movie costumes over the years:

The cast includes Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Spider-Man (well, a couple stuntmen and many computers will also be Spider-Man) and then Rhys Ifans as the Lizard, Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, presumably Sally Field as Aunt May, and Denis Leary as the father of Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone). Campbell Scott (Roger Dodger, The Spanish Prisoner) and Julianne Nicholson (Kinsey, Little Black Book) as Parker’s parents, Richard and Mary Parker, who leave their son an orphan. Chris Zylka will play Flash Thompson.

Irrfan Khan (Slumdog Millionaire, The Darjeeling Limited) will play Nels Van Adder was a former research assistant who volunteered to become a test subject for a chemical developed by Stromm and Norman Osborn, which results in him becoming a villain named Proto-Goblin. Annie Parisse (Rubicon, National Treasure) will play Van Atter’s wife. It has been rumored that Chris Zylka has been cast as Eugene Thompson. The young Miles Elliot has been cast in Spider-Man as Billy Connors, the son of Dr. Curt Connors. C. Thomas Howell will plays a character named “Ray”.

Movie Costumes We’d Love To Wear

When a hit movie comes out, the licensed Halloween costumes are quick to follow. This year, costumes from James Cameron’s Avatar and Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 3 are sure to be just as big on the Trick-or-Treat circuit as the films were at the box office. But a lot of great movie costumes don’t make it to the consumer market. Here are a few picks that we’d like to see translated for those of us who don’t have Hollywood costume designers at our beck and call.

1. Zhang Ziyi as Sayuri – Memoirs of a Geisha
I’ll admit it – I’ve never been happy with costume kimonos that are available in the US. They’re pretty, but I’ve been to Japan and they just can’t match the appeal of the real thing. The costumes in Memoir of a Geisha may not be accurate in the strictest sense, but they capture the spirit of the kimono as no US kimono costume I’ve ever seen can. Let’s see some costumes inspired by Colleen Atwood’s beautiful wardrobe for this film!

2. Humphrey Bogart as Rick Blaine – Casablanca
The 1940s are an era that’s underrepresented in costumes, and that’s really a shame. The styles, silhouettes, and hairstyles exemplified in films like Casablanca are really due for a comeback, at least in costume form. Humphrey Bogart had two great looks in this movie that would translate well as costumes – his white shawl-collared jacket and bow tie as nightclub manager, and his trench coat and hat from the ending.

3. Keira Knightley as Cecilia Tallis – Atonement
Voted the best-loved movie costume only a few months after the movie was released, this green gown is almost a character in its own right. The 1930s tend to get overlooked in the costume department in favor of 1920s flapper costumes, and this is a huge loss for fans of historical fashion. Like the 1940s, the 1930s deserve to be revisited in costume form, and this gorgeous green gown would be a great place to start.

4. Tilda Swinton as the White Witch – The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe
No other witch is quite as chilling as Jadis, the White Witch from The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Her gown with its unique, stand-out neckline, combined with a crown of icicles and a white fur stole, create the perfect personification of unending winter. I know this would be a tough costume to get just right, and to do so, it’d probably have a hefty price tag. But I think it’d be worth it.

5. Clint Eastwood as The Man with No Name – The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
The Western gunslinger never looked better than Clint Eastwood in the Man With No Name Trilogy of westerns from the 1960s. Today’s cowboy costumes could learn a lot from this instantly recognizable costume masterpiece. This costume captures the gritty, black-and-gray morality of the old west in a way that a cowboy hat, Holstein-print vest and a pair of chaps never can.

6. Nicole Kidman as Satine – Moulin Rouge!
I’ll admit that the glittering costumes worn by Nicole Kidman as the courtesan and performer Satine probably wouldn’t flatter my figure, but they capture the imagination none the less. The glitz and glamor of a bygone era come to life in this musical (along with the darker side of the time), and the costumes take center stage. It’s really hard to pick just one to feature here.

7. Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy – Pride and Prejudice
The 1995 BBC miniseries Pride and Prejudice launched a revival in interest in all things Jane Austen, and the performance of Colin Firth as the hero Mr. Darcy can probably take a great deal of credit for that resurgence. The style of menswear today can be traced back to the Regency period and Beau Brummel, who pioneered the “dandy” style of the early 1800s exemplified here. And if Colin Firth is any indication, this style of costume is still making women swoon 200 years later!

8. Takeshi Kaneshiro as Zhuge Liang – Red Cliff
Zhuge Liang was a legendary strategist during the Three Kingdoms period of China, a turbulent era of warfare when many heroes became legends. The story of one epic battle of this period was told in the film Red Cliff, which features many gorgeous costumes including gowns, imperial robes, and period Chinese armor. I’m not sure if they’re 100% accurate to the era they’re depicting, but the costumes sure do look good! I chose Zhuge Liang for his iconic look, but there are many other great costumes to choose from that provide a nice change from the typical Chinese costume that you’ll find in a costume store this Halloween.

There are a lot of great costumes in film, and I don’t have room to list them all here. Are there any other movies that you’ve seen lately and thought, “I’d love to wear that costume?” Have you ever tried to recreate your favorite costume from a film or TV show?

Designs Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Wedding Outfits

The fashions of the Harry Potter films might not be the talk of the town but actress Emma Watson, who plays Hermione Granger, has quickly become a source of style. Filming for the two-parter Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is well underway and fans are already eager for information. Forums are buzzing with rumours and snippets of information, and the current fascination is the costumes. Jenny Packham, the renowned wedding dress designer, has confirmed in Vogue that she will be designing some of the dresses for the new film, having previously worked on Sex and the City, The Devil Wears Prada and Casino Royale. The focus of the excitement seems to be the dresses for a wedding, a big event in the first part of the Deathly Hallows duo, and pictures of Hermione’s dress seem to be cropping up all over the Internet and are causing quite a stir in the muggle world.

Emma has become quite the style icon as she has grown up, frequently featuring in fashion magazines and attending catwalk shows. In late 2005 she graced the cover of Teen Vogue, and again with her co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint in the summer of 2007 and recently she was confirmed as the face of Burberry for the 2009 autumn/winter range. She studied art in school and college and says: “I’ve been focusing on art a lot, and fashion’s a great extension of that.” Rumours of her own clothing range or perfume have both been denied by the star.

Debate was sparked by fans posting images and asking for help in finding Hermione’s red dress. After some confusion about whether it was a custom-made dress by the costume department, or a Valentino dress Emma was seen wearing in a recent copy of Vogue, news emerged that Jenny Packham was designing some of the dresses. The red dress Hermione wears to the wedding is featured on Jenny’s website, and seems to be a bright chiffon material, very feminine with layers and ruffles. Vogue reported Packham’s involvement in the Harry Potter film, quoting her as saying: “At the moment we’re designing some dresses for the next Harry Potter film – it’s not always easy as we have to remember that they’re for people playing children, so we have to be swayed by the costume directors rather than our fashion taste, but it’s really exciting to be involved.”

Fans have been discussing the recent photographs of the dress, and many feel that Emma’s style is taking over her character’s; one fan argues: “Well, the dress would be okay for Emma, not for Hermione though. Doesn’t go with the book… but hey, which scenes in the movie to actually still refer to the books?”

The feeling is mutual on forums such as PotterShots and MuggleNet, as fans stress that Hermione’s dress in the book is lilac and much more subtle than this stunning red number. The dress seems out of place to many HP fanatics, as Hermione is usually seen in comfortable, simple outfits, (for examples see our guide to the teen casual look from the Half-Blood Prince), and fans will have to wait until November 2010, when the first installment is due out, to find out what other changes have been made to the original story.

Appropriately, after the show, she dished to PEOPLE about working with her newest It-girl client — Emma Watson‘s Hermione in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. “Emma was so lovely,” said the British designer, renowned for her glamorous red carpet creations. “It’s the first time Hermione has worn something really kind of glam,” said Packham excitedly, on the red dress she designed for Watson’s more “geek than chic” character Hermione Granger. “You just have to do it and hope that they don’t cut it,” said Packham, adding “I think with Hermione, the dress is featured in a very prominent scene, thankfully.” So can we expect Hermione to turn into a designer diva in the next installment of the franchise?

“No, I’m sure Emma wanted to wear something more glamorous, but she still has to look like your average teenager and, of course, a witch at the same time!” said Packham. Having worked on the film sets of Sex and the City and Casino Royale, Packham still gets a buzz from being part of the action: “It’s just an amazing experience, plus I’ve got two daughters so I got so many brownie points for that one!” –Monique Jessen
