A Titanic memorial cruise will sail from Southampton for a twelve-night cruise on board the MS Balmoral and will follow the RMS Titanic's original itinerary. On April 14th exactly 100 years on from the tragic voyage a memorial service will be held over the Titanic's final resting place before continuing on to New York. The cruise will feature Titanic expert guest lecturers and a remake of the last meal served. The musical "Titanic" is seeing an increase in performances. I imagine even more performances will be seen in the 2011 season. This lively and surprisingly upbeat show includes a large cast of 45 named characters and an elaborate set. It is unlikely you will see local community theater putting on this massive show. Keep an eye out for touring Broadway production companies instead.
Many museums in America, Europe, and Australia have opened their doors to permanent and traveling exhibits. New artifacts resurrected from the sunken Titanic are adding on to these collections. Items include dish wear, jewelry, and even shoes. As if being the number one box office hit in 1997 was not enough, producers of the movie "Titanic" are planning to re-release the movie in 2012 in 3D. They anticipate the success of 3D "Avatar" with the centennial awareness of the Titanic will spark a large return to the theater and a renewed fan following. With all of the Titanic themed events coming up the demand for Titanic costumes is going to rise. Just like the big rush in 1997, costume manufactures and pattern makers should be releasing new designs. Currently pre-made Titanic costumes are selling in costume shops but they are hard to find. Pattern makers like Simplicity may reopen production of their "Titanic dress" patterns retired several years ago.
The first scene shows Rose arriving at the doc yard in a white and purple stripped dress suit topped with a gorgeous black picture hat. Under her suit she wears a club collar blouse and narrow tie. Several costume retailers sell replicas of this dress ranging in price from $180 to $370. This dress suit is ideal for the Titanic Memorial Cruise taking place in 2012. Rose's Dinner Dress similar to the Jump dress, the dinner gown is also red with beaded net over a silk gown. Rose wore this gown at the dinner Jack was invited too. It is the second most requested dress for Proms and formal events. The dress we see Rose in for the longest duration is her Swim dress. It is several layers of pastel blue and pinks chiffon and a pink silk sash tied around her waist. It is the easiest dress to make whether it be from a pattern or from items in your own closet. Many modern dresses carry the same layered chiffon material as the original Swim dress.
